Double entendre of the day?

The BBC report that:
'A passenger on a plane travelling to Luton Airport from Israel has been questioned by police after a snake was discovered on the flight.

The man had brought his "small pet snake" on-board the Easyjet flight from Tel Aviv, the airline confirmed.

A spokesman said passengers were "not in any danger". It was later found to be a "harmless" corn snake.'
But it was this that caught my eye:
'Hugo Allon tweeted: "My plane is being met by police because someone brought a snake on board and whipped it out mid flight. Never a dull moment with Easyjet."'
Whipped his snake out during a flight, was it hidden in his trousers?

@_fuck_israel_ is at it again

The nasty anti-Semitic troll @_fuck_israel_ has been at it again, this time he has claimed that the Bible says that Jesus will return to Earth to kill all bad people (Jews) and also that all Christians believe that Jesus will come back to kill all Jews. You don't believe me?

Here we go...

In case you've forgotten, this is one of this idiot's previous tweets about wanting to kill all Jews

The BBC report that:
'A list of "shell" companies where firms keep money offshore will be published to discourage tax evasion, David Cameron will announce later.

Ministers had already announced the register, intended to lift the "cloak of secrecy" around company ownership.

But the prime minister will say making the register public will make it easier for firms and developing countries to know who they are doing business with.

Labour, anti-corruption campaigners and charities welcomed the move.

Speaking at the Open Government Partnership summit in London later, Mr Cameron will say a small minority of companies have hidden their business dealings in a "complex web of shell companies" for too long.'
When this happens I wonder what we will discover about Windrush Ventures Ltd.?

Why a democratic UK is doomed along with the rest of Western civilisation

'A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.
From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.'
The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:
  • From bondage to spiritual faith;
  • From spiritual faith to great courage;
  • From courage to liberty;
  • From liberty to abundance;
  • From abundance to selfishness;
  • From selfishness to complacency;
  • From complacency to apathy;
  • From apathy to dependence;
  • From dependence back into bondage.
The Tytler Cycle by 18th century Scots historian Alexander Tytler, although there is some debate over how much of the above is Tytler and how much has a 20th century source.

Regardless of the debate over attribution, this part seems to cover Western civilisation's problems very neatly:
'A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.

From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy...'
The Labour party in the UK, similar parties across Europe and the Democratic party in the USA laid the bait and enough of the electorate have taken it to make left-wing governments the norm from now on. Gordon Brown's expansion of the welfare state to try and ensure that as many people a possible were sucking on the teat of public money is the man most culpale in the UK, I detest that man so much.

Gordon Brown 'an ex-politician' - apart from taking an MP's salary of course

My distaste for Gordon 'broken moral compass' Brown is on record, so this recent admission of his does not surprise me in the slightest.

Compare and Contrast

When ex-Conservative Prime Minister John Major intervened in the energy price debate, the BBC made it headline news. When Tony Blair expresses regret that Labour had not cut spending before the recession struck, the BBC just don't report the story.

Why other than wanting to cause the Conservative government embarrassment but protect the Labour opposition from similar embarrassment could the explanation for this be?

The true story here is that the Fundamental Spending Review, which Tony Blair says “didn’t really go anywhere”, offered an opportunity to make savings. Instead, it was sunk out of anti-Blair spite by Gordon Brown – with Ed Milband and Ed Balls in his team.

Tongue in cheek or serious?

One comment caught my eye on the BBC's story that 'A petition demanding the government reverse a ban on schoolchildren in England taking holidays during term-time will be delivered later.'

Is this serious or tongue in cheek?

'8.

Quite right, I myself have 6 children and it's a nightmare with plane fares when we go to Florida at peak times. The government need to help struggling families like mine cope with this.'

Elder Of Ziyon - Israel News: Egypt closes Rafah for fourth day, media still mostly silent

' Egypt has now closed Rafah for four consecutive days, this time without even informing the Palestinian Authority as they used to do.An Egyptian source told the German Press agency that the crossing would be closed "indefinitely."France24, unusually, is calling Egypts actions in Rafah a "blockade." Who's taller comedian Greg Davies or Pointless's Richard Osman?

According to Wikipedia, Greg Davies 6 ft 8 in (2.03 m) tall and has size 13 feet whilst Richard Osman is 6 ft 7 in (2.01 m) (his shoes size is not recorded).

So Greg Davies is taller but his size 13 feet seem a little small, I'm only 5ft 9in and have size 12 feet - yes everything else is in proportion.

Miliband duped by union dirty tricks in vote-rigging probe | Mail Online

Some more news that you won't find reported on the BBC.
'Ed Miliband was facing fresh embarrassment over his relationship with Labour's union paymasters last night after secret emails suggested he had been duped by a 'dirty tricks' campaign orchestrated by them.

A cache of 1,000 messages was said to have disclosed how bosses at Unite subverted an inquiry ordered by the Opposition leader into vote-rigging claims.

In the summer, Mr Miliband suspended the selection process in the safe Scottish seat of Falkirk following allegations that Britain's biggest trade union had packed the local constituency party with its supporters to get  its candidate chosen.

But last month the Labour leader was forced to back down after local activists withdrew their complaints.

Now new evidence has come to light in the Sunday Times suggesting that Unite was indeed trying to rig the selection and then cover it up. The emails alleging dirty tricks have been passed to police in Scotland, who earlier ruled out an inquiry – and there will now be fresh pressure on Labour to reopen its own probe.'

Svensmark: “global warming stopped and a cooling is beginning” – “enjoy global warming while it lasts” | Watts Up With That?

'It's important to realise that the Little Ice Age was a global event. It ended in the late 19th Century and was followed by increasing solar activity. Over the past 50 years solar activity has been at its highest since the medieval warmth of 1000 years ago. But now it appears that the Sun has changed again, and is returning towards what solar scientists call a "grand minimum" such as we saw in the Little Ice Age.'

How did 10 eggs survive that?

I couldn't embed that LiveLeak video (does anyone know how to do that now) but here's a brave dog rescue in similar circumstances from Russia.

he answered them back - no wonder they beat him up.

Live Leak report the case of an American visitor to London who dared to answer a group of Asian men back and was beaten to a pulp for his insolence.
An American student has been scarred for life after being subjected to a violent gang attack on only his third day in London.

CCTV cameras caught Francesco Hounye, a 22-year-old from Florida, being set upon by a gang of five Asian men on Commercial Road at just after midnight on Monday 17th June.

The group smashed a bottle into his face and then chased after him to continue their assault, repeatedly kicking and punching him - and police believe it happened because he was not a local.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Ben Mott said: "The victim has an Italian accent, his own style of dress and mannerisms and, when challenged by the Asian males, answered them back.

"They retaliated by grabbing the bottle and launching a vicious attack that has left him scarred for life.

He had come to the UK to enhance his studies and has been left so shocked and horrified by what happened that he feels unsafe and is unsure if he wants to stay here.

"The CCTV footage is exceptionally clear and I believe the suspects to be local. I would ask people to please look closely at the faces of the attackers and help us identify them. I am positive someone would know who they are from looking at the footage."

Francesco said in a statement to police: "As a result of this incident I am now scared to go out on my own in London. I am a visitor to the UK and was considering continuing my studies here but this incident has made me think twice. "I feel very emotional about the whole situation. I also now face the rest of my life with the permanent scarring that will be left on my face as a result of this attack. Every time I look in the mirror from now on I will be reminded of this incident."

The suspects are described as Asian and aged in their late teens to early 20s. They are possibly Bengali.

Anyone who can help is asked to contact Tower Hamlets CID on 020 7275 4546 or if you wish to remain anonymous, Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

At UN, Pakistan Praises Saudi Arabia for Protecting “Women’s Rights” | FrontPage Magazine

'As the UN Human Rights Council scrutinized Saudi Arabia's domestic rights record this morning… out of 95 countries who took the floor, 82 praised Saudi Arabia.

Hillel Neuer, executive director of the Geneva-based human rights group UN Watch, said the country is poised to win a seat on the Human Rights Council.

"A country whose legal system routinely lashes women rape victims rather than punish the perpetrators should not have been praised effusively by members of the UN's top human rights body," said Neuer. "Instead the world should have addressed the Saudi regime's use of cruel, inhuman and degrading punishments, such as flogging, amputations and eye-gouging."'

More here http://frontpagemag.com/2013/dgreenfield/at-un-pakistan-praises-saudi-arabia-for-protecting-womens-rights

Here's what some United Nations' member states said about Saudi Arabia and human rights:

Afghanistan: “We commend Saudia Arabia as they continue to enhance the protection and promotion of human rights…”

Somalia: “Saudi Arabia maintains a high priority for protection and promotion of human rights…”
Libya: “Saudi Arabia continues to strengthen human rights and promote them and this deserves our appreciation…”
Mauritania, VP of the UNHRC (and a country that practices slavery): “We commend Saudi Arabia for always seeking to strengthen human rights…We commend Saudi Arabia in terms of the progress on guaranteeing fundamental rights and freedoms, socioeconomic progress, participation of women at all levels and participation in society.
China: “We appreciate efforts made to protect the rights of children and to have dialogues of religious tolerance…”
Pakistan: Commended “laudable steps taken by Saudi Arabia to promote and protect the rights of children and women…”
So according to China, Saudi Arabia which arrests Christians for praying, practises religious tolerance.

So according to Afghanistan, Libya, Somalia, and the slavers of Mauritania, the Saudis excel at human rights.

So according to Pakistan, a country where raping women is endemic, Saudi Arabia, which won’t let women drive or leave the house, is also breaking new ground in protecting women’s rights.

Satire is dead, what other conclusion is there.

Doctor Who's coming back but what does the trailer mean?

First of all why are some of the Doctor Who iterations not in the trailer? No Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy or Paul McGann - I did originally think that Christopher Eccleston was also missing but he's there at 0:37. Or have I missed them?

Because some things are beyond criticism

The Telegraph reports  something interesting:

BBC 'shelves' Panorama exposé of Comic Relief
The planned broadcast of a Panorama investigation into Comic Relief has reportedly been cancelled after a string of BBC executives ruled themselves out of making decisions about it.
Apparently:
The documentary is understood to examine how the charity allegedly invested £150 million of its funds for up to eight years, before handing the money to the causes for which it had been raised.

Some of the money was allegedly invested in tobacco firms and an arms company.

By the end of last year, the charity was allegedly sitting on £261million in a mixture of shares, bonds and cash.
Even more interestingly:

The six-month investigation also explores how staffing costs at Comic Relief have allegedly almost doubled from £7.1million a year in 2008 to £13.5 million by 2012.

The BBC whose pet projects, like the Labour party, Barack Obama and the Palestinians are beyond criticism.

'Traditional tribal customs' - hmmm really BBC?

The BBC report this:
'A 15-year-old Yemeni girl was burned to death by her father for getting in touch with her fiance before their wedding, police say.

The 35-year-old man was arrested after the teenager's death in the remote village of Shabaa, in Taiz province.

"The father committed this heinous crime on the pretext that his daughter had been keeping in contact with her fiance," a police statement claimed.

Local news websites said he had caught the pair chatting on the telephone.

Traditional tribal customs in some parts of Yemen prohibit contact between men and women before marriage.

Last year, the UN Human Rights council raised concerns about so-called "honour killings" in the country. Perpetrators were not charged with murder, and faced only a six-month to one-year prison sentence, it found.

Accorded a low status in the family and community, many Yemeni women are subjected to various forms of violence, deprivation of education, early and forced marriages, sexual abuse, restrictions over freedom of movement, forced pregnancy, and female genital mutilation.

Last month, there was an outcry after an eight-year-old girl reportedly died of internal bleeding on the night she wed a 40-year-old man.'

A 15-year-old Yemeni girl was burned to death by her father for getting in touch with her fiance before their wedding, honour killers not charged with murder, deprivation of education, early and forced marriage, restrictions over freedom of movement, female genital mutilation and an eight-year-old girl dying of internal bleeding on the night she wed a 40-year-old man. Traditional tribal customs?

Let's look at the demographics in Yemen - 'Virtually all citizens of Yemen are Muslims, either... Shi'a Islam (50%) or ... Sunni Islam (50%) ... There are also approximately 3,000 Christians, 400 Jews, and 40 Hindus.

So Traditional tribal customs or Islam? Not that the BBC could ever admit that.

Miley Cyrus at number 1? Really? I do not agree with so many of these choices but then I'm not American and probably not in the target age range either.

This should be interesting

The BBC report that:
'Councils in England should publish annual parking-charge accounts if they want to prove they are not being used as a "cash cow", MPs have said.

The Transport Committee warned it was "neither acceptable nor legal" to use fines to increase revenue.

Councils made a surplus of hundreds of millions of pounds each year, it added.

The MPs urged ministers to freeze charges, currently capped at £130 in London and £70 outside. Councils said money raised went back into services.

Committee chairman, Labour MP Louise Ellman, said: "There is a deep-rooted public perception that parking enforcement is used as a cash cow, so it's essential that local authorities apply stringent transparency."'
If any accounts are published, then I doubt that they will be transparent. Many local councils use parking fines as a form of transgression tax that doesn't show up as an increase in local taxation.

Plebgate

I think that all you need to know can be encapsulated in these few lines from this BBC report:
'On Monday, the three officers said they had not planned to mislead the public.

...

However, in comments made after the meeting, one of the officers, Inspector MacKaill, claimed the former chief whip would not provide an account of the incident, and called for his resignation.

But Mr Mitchell had recorded the meeting, and a transcript showed that he apologised for swearing at the police officers and had denied using the word "plebs".'
An open and shut case? I'm sure the police officers will escape the full weight of the law, police officers do tend to.

What's wrong with advising people to put another jumper on if they are cold?

I listened to the BBC Radio 4 Today programme for just three minutes this morning and there was an example of BBC bias. The interviewee was Jeremy Hunt and the interviewer had to ask, at the end of an interview about trying to stop or reduce NHS tourism, about what people should do if they feel cold but also feel they can't afford to heat their home - should they just put another jumper on, was the sneering question. Of course Jeremy Hunt doesn't want to say so but YES they should.

We can afford to heat our house but that doesn't mean we have the central heating blaring morning, noon and night. It comes on for under an hour in the morning and an hour or so in early evening; during the day there's no need yet. Some houses I go to are heated so everyone can laze around in shorts and t-shirts, why? We sit in jeans and a long sleeve cotton top, if we're cold of an evening then we might put the central heating on for another hour or more likely we'll put on another layer, or even a thin blanket whilst sitting on the sofa.

Heating one's home is a necessity but there's no right to heat to excess. If you're cold put on another layer.

The BBC's anti-Conservative bias blinds them to the truth but also leads them to the inconsistent position where with one breath they tell us we must save energy to save the planet from CO2 induced man made climate change but with the next that we must all have the right to live in homes heated so we can relax in shorts and t-shirts.

What the BBC deliberately doesn't tell you about welfare immigration

'...the UK is one of only five EU states (the others being Finland, Germany, Estonia and Ireland) that offer non contributory benefits to the unemployed. In other words, only if you live in one of those countries are you able to claim unemployment benefits without having paid into the system.

If you or I – or the BBC home affairs editor Mark Easton – pitched up in France, Italy or Greece, we could not claim unemployment benefit without having contributed into the system. (There might, as someone in the comment thread will point out, be a million or so Brits living in Spain, but they have no right to claim any Spanish benefits that their taxes have not contributed towards.)

The European Commission is, however, demanding that if Brits can claim non-contributory unemployment benefit in Britain, then so too must every EU citizen. It is the whole reason why they commissioned this report in the first place.  That there are no corresponding non-contributory entitlements for Brits to claim in most of Europe is something they ignore. We must open our system up to all comers, they insist.'
There's more about this matter from Douglas Carswell in The Telegraph but never in or on the pro-EU, pro-unfettered immigration, pro-Labour BBC.

How 9/11 would have been reported if media applied same standards as they do to reporting Islamist terrorism in Israel

'11 Sept 2001: Many Arabs killed in day of tit-for-tat violence on east coast of America
The cycle of violence in America spiralled out of control today when a series of violent incidents left thousands dead. Those killed include many Arab and Muslim civilians.
Al Jaziera has revealed that many of the Arabs killed were refugee children who had fled from oppression.
Although an American spokesman claimed that they too suffered "many civilian deaths", this has been denied by the Al Quaeda organisation who maintain that the only Americans killed were military personnel and illegal settlers.
The violence started when one of five unarmed Arab civilians, who boarded a 767 aircraft in Boston, was refused permission to fly the plane, despite having a valid flying licence. The American authorities have been imposing increasingly tight restrictions on the freedom of movement of Arab civilians within the US. This humiliation to their dignity has created, not unsurprisingly, deep anger and resentment among even moderate Arabs. When the fully qualified pilot was denied the opportunity to work in his chosen profession, he became understandably angry. It is reported that the outnumbered Arab men engaged in fighting with members of the crew, but what really happened next may never be known.
What is certain is that all of the five Arabs were killed, along with the plane's other occupants (believed to be primarily military and intelligence personnel along with some illegal American settlers) when the plane crashed into the North tower of the World Trade Center.
Al Jaziera quickly confirmed that the building housed many Arab refugee children, who were all killed in the attack along with a number of Muslim workers. A number of illegal American settlers dressed as businessmen may also have perished.'

Do the Duchess of Cambridge/Kate Middleton's elbows look a little odd in this picture taken at Wimbledon in 2012? I've never seen elbows with two end points before. It's not Olecranon bursitis (aka elbow bump / student's elbow / baker's elbow / swellbow / water on the elbow) so what is it?

Ralph Miliband wanted to destroy Britain's institutions and turn country into a Communist state - Telegraph

'Ralph Miliband's assistant says Ed Miliband's father preferred dictatorship of the proletariat to a Labour government.

Ann Carlton, who worked for a time as Ralph Miliband's research assistant in the Sixties, has belatedly come out in support of her old boss after he evoked the ire of a newspaper.

"Ralph did not hate Britain," she says of the Labour leader's father inThe Spectator. "He just wanted to make it better by transforming it into a Communist state, and that meant destroying a lot of Britain's social institutions, because they promoted and buttressed social inequality."'

What was Roy Hodgson's space monkey joke?

NASA decided they would finally send a man up in an capsule after sending only monkeys in the earlier missions.

They fire the man and the monkey into space.

The intercom crackles "Monkey, fire the retros".

A little later, "Monkey, check the solid fuel supply".

Later still "Monkey, check the life support systems".

The astronaut takes umbrage and radios NASA. "When do I get something?"

NASA replied – in 15 minutes, feed the monkey.

Racist when comparing Andros Townsend to the NASA monkey? I think not, but it helps to sell newspapers.

BBC Poll Tracker is out of action, I wonder why

The BBC Poll Tracker is currently out of action, giving this message:
'Poll tracker
We're making some improvements to the poll tracker. While this is going on it won't be updated, but you can still look back at polls and key events over the last 30 years.

Alternatively, click here for details on latest poll trends.'
In case you're interested here's an up to date chart courtesy of Mike Smithson

Now why would the BBC not like to show that chart?

I remember the feeling so clearly

40 years ago, almost to the day, a very young Master NotaSheep watched England be held to a draw by Poland and so not qualify for the 1975 World Cup. That young chap cried for lost dreams and that was the last time I cried tears of loss over a sporting event; tears of joy are a whole other matter.

So as the tension builds let's hope I don't revert to the NotaSheep of 40 years ago.

Who is Iggy Azalea?

Iggy Azalea was on Never Mind The Buzzcocks last night but I missed the first five minutes, so I had no idea who Izzy Azalea was. Tall, Australian, striking looking blond but what did she do? A minute on Google & Wikipedia and now I know:
'Amethyst Amelia Kelly, better known by her stage name Iggy Azalea, is an Australian recording artist and model from Mullumbimby, New South Wales. Wikipedia
Born: June 7, 1990 (age 23), Sydney, Australia
Height: 1.78 m
Nationality: Australian
Full name: Amethyst Amelia Kelly'
Here's a few of her tracks...

Oh Rory, why?

I read that Rory Rory McIlroy has dumped his tennis golden girlfriend, Caroline Wozniacki, in the hope of getting back on course and retaining his former World Number One status.

Hmm...

Do you think you should reconsider Rory?

The hidden Egyptian blocakade of Gaza

The BBC finally manage to acknowledge that Egypt is blockading Gaza as well as Israel. Admittedly you to have to read to the very end of this piece about the discovery of a Hamas terror tunnel before you find:
'Egypt, which has its own blockade of Gaza, has recently attempted to close off the network of tunnels used to smuggle goods beneath the border.'
What the BBC manage not to directly report is that per the Jerusalem Post:
'The tunnel was constructed using approximately 24,000 Israeli concrete slabs which the IDF had permitted into Gaza to ease the crisis in the civilian construction sector...'
Remember that the next time the BBC or some bleeding heart pro-Palestinian  anti-Israel group whine about Israel not allowing construction materials into Gaza.

Fat Bottomed Girls Come Together mashup

A great mashup of Queen's Fat Bottomed Girls and the Beatles' Come Together

Terminology

CNN inform me in a Newsflash Email that:
'A ship carrying about 250 people has capsized off the coast of Sicily, Italian news agency ANSA reported Friday.

The ship is believed to have been carrying migrants.

Authorities responded to a mayday from the ship, which was about 60 miles offshore, Maj. Leonardo Ricci told CNN.

Earlier this week, another boat carrying more than 500 African migrants sank off the coast of Lampedusa'
Very sad indeed but I'm intrigued by the use of the word 'migrants'. Were these 'migrants' on their way to Italy as invited by the Italian government? Were they hoping to land in Italy and claim asylum or just disappear into the Italian countryside before moving onto the rest of Europe to claim benefits?

This Wikipedia article on the Lampedusa immigrant reception center may be of interst to all except the BBC, CNN and other lefty media.

Since the early 2000s, Lampedusa has become a prime transit point for illegal immigrants from Africa, the Middle East and Asia wanting to enter Europe. In 2004, the Libyan and Italian governments reached a secret agreement that obliged Libya to accept those deported from Italian territories. This resulted in the mass return of many people from Lampedusa to Libya between 2004 and 2005 without the endorsement of European Parliament.[2]
By 2006 many immigrants were paying people smugglers in Libya to help get them to Lampedusa by boat.[3] On arrival, most were then transferred by the Italian government to reception centres in mainland Italy. Many were then released because their deportation orders were not enforced.[4]
In 2009, the overcrowded conditions at the island's temporary immigrant reception centre came under criticism by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The unit, which was originally built for a maximum capacity of 850 people, was reported to be housing nearly 2,000 boat people. A significant number of people were sleeping outdoors under plastic sheeting.[5] A fire started during an inmate riot destroyed a large portion of the holding facility on 19 February 2009. Most of the immigrants were from Ghana, Mali and Nigeria and were working illegally as seasonal farm workers.[6]
In 2011 many more immigrants came to Lampedusa during the rebellions in Tunisia and Libya.[7] By May 2011, more than 35,000 immigrants had arrived on the island from Tunisia and Libya.[8] By the end of August, 48,000 had arrived.[9] Most were young males in their 20s and 30s.[10] The situation has caused division within the EU, the French government regarding most of the arrivals as economic migrants rather than refugees in fear of persecution.[11] The Libyan ambassador to Italy stated that Gaddafi controlled illegal immigration to meet his goals- "he wanted to turn Lampedusa black with Africans".[9]

Stand By Me / Every Breath You Take mashup

Space related news

Scott Carpenter, one of the original seven NASA astronauts and the second American to orbit Earth, has died, according to NASA. He was 88.

If you want to see a good basic programme about the history of space flight, particularly strong on events leading to Apollo 11 moon landing, then the BBC's Horizon programme presented by Dr. Brian Cox was rather good last night.

Say what?!

I thought I was good at accents but now I'm not so sure.

Who is to blame for energy price rises? “Yes, there are upward pressures on energy bills, and that makes life difficult for people, including those in fuel poverty, but it is right that we go down the low-carbon energy route.”

Despite what Ed Miliband said in his BBC Watchdog interview last night, when Mrs NotaSheep and I were mesmerised by his over white teeth and goofy expression more than his words, the 'green taxes' are to blame for at least part of price rises and Ed Miliband knew that they would be.

Guido Fawkes has been right on top of this story
Ed Miliband admitted in 2009 that his green taxes would have a direct negative effect on the cost of living.
When pushed by Andrew Marr about the impact of green measures “on the price of energy” and “the price of basic living necessities”, the then Energy Secretary replied: “there are upward pressures on prices, yes”:
Andrew Marr Show, July 13th 2009
AM: A very simple question  when it comes to the price of energy, when it comes to the price of basic living necessities, it may not be £230-a-year as the Sunday Mirror says, but are we or are we not going to have to pay more.
EM: There are upward pressures on prices, yes.
AM: Yes, the answer’s yes.
Later that year at a speech in Poland, Miliband called for the world to “lose three months or six months of economic growth” to act on climate change immediately:
Demos Europa talk at Warsaw School of Economics, October 7th 2009
“The costs of acting on climate change are something like 1% of national income, 1%-2% of national income, by 2050. So we can either lose three months or six months of economic growth, for the world, and act, or we face this huge risk in relation to the cost of adapting to climate change.”
The speech came at the height of the economic crisis, yet as a government minister Miliband was advocating hitting growth in order to pursue climate change policies. In government Ed was happy to raise the cost of living for ideological reasons. This is Green Ed’s cost of living crisis.

Like all warmists, Ed Miliband is a believer in Man Made Climate Change or he's just in favour of the redistribution of wealth from richer to poorer countries.

Back when he was Energy Secretary, the Labour leader gave the LSE Ralph Miliband lecture. On November 19th 2009, he explicitly confirmed that his policies would see energy bills rise:
“It needs a willingness to take the argument to people about the tough choices involved in tackling climate change. This is the starting point: a willingness to engage with people on, for example, the fact that to deal with the problem of climate change, energy bills are likely to rise.”
That same month Miliband told parliament:
“We need to be candid about the issue because it is a very big challenge. The pressures on energy prices will be upwards in the coming decade’”
Most damning of all, in January 2010:
“Yes, there are upward pressures on energy bills, and that makes life difficult for people, including those in fuel poverty, but it is right that we go down the low-carbon energy route.”
In his own words, Miliband says his policies would cause energy price rises. What was that about a cost of living crisis?
That sentence should be put to Ed Miliband and every Labour spokesman when they make their fatuous claims to be in favour of cutting energy costs:

“Yes, there are upward pressures on energy bills, and that makes life difficult for people, including those in fuel poverty, but it is right that we go down the low-carbon energy route.”
